This production method involves the molecularly identical growth of animal flesh, outside of a living animal. Cultured meat is produced using tissue engineering techniques pioneered in regenerative medicine. It is known for its potential to mitigate the environmental impact of meat production, as well as to address issues related to animal welfare, food security, and human health. Its potential has long been of interest, including to British statesman Winston Churchill in 1931.
